জানা গেছে, মহাসড়কে অতিরিক্ত গাড়ি, সড়ক দুর্ঘটনা ও সেতুতে কিছু সময় টোল আদায় বন্ধ থাকায় গতকাল শুক্রবার ভোরে প্রায় ২০ কিলোমিটার এলাকাজুড়ে যানজটের সৃষ্টি হয়। বেলা বাড়ার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে যানজট আরও বাড়ে, যা আজ শনিবারও অব্যাহত রয়েছে। শনিবার ভোরে মহাসড়কের নাটিয়াপাড়া এলাকা থেকে বঙ্গবন্ধু সেতু পূর্বপাড় পর্যন্ত প্রায় ৫০ কিলোমিটার এলাকাজুড়ে যানজটের সৃষ্টি হয়েছে। মির্জাপুরের গোড়াইতেও গাড়ির ধীরগতি রয়েছে।
আজ শনিবার সকাল ৮টায় মহাসড়ক পরিদর্শনকালে দেখা যায়, বঙ্গবন্ধু সেতুর পূর্ব প্রান্ত থেকে টাঙ্গাইলের বাওইখোলা পর্যন্ত ৪০ কিলোমিটার এলাকাজুড়ে শত শত যানবাহন দাঁড়িয়ে আছে। এসব যানবাহনে ভ্রমণকারী হাজারো যাত্রী ঘণ্টার পর ঘণ্টা দীর্ঘ পথযাত্রায় প্রয়োজনীয় খাদ্য ও পানীয়র অভাবে অসুস্থ হয়ে পড়েছেন।
